Register for a beginners’ beekeeping workshop hosted by the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.
The workshop will be held Friday, December 4 at the S. J Parker Extension Auditorium (2300 L. A. “Prexy” Davis Drive) in Pine Bluff. Learn all about the biology, ecology and behavior of honeybees. Opportunities will be offered for questions and answers as well as hands on activities with bee keeping equipment.
Here’s the draft agenda:
- 8:00-9:00 Registration (coffee)
- 9:00-10:15 An Introduction to Honey Bees – Jon Zawislak
- 10:15-10:45 Break
- 11:15-12:00 How to set up a honey bee hive (video) – Yong Park
- 12:00-1:00 Lunch
- 1:00-2:00 Demonstration of hives and equipment for beekeeping – Danny Glover
- 2:00-2:30 Question/Answer
- 2:30 Workshop Adjourns

Heifer Village will be shedding light on the secret life of bees during its “Sweet as Honey Triple Feature” beginning at 3 p.m., Sunday, August 2nd at Heifer International headquarter (1 World Avenue) in downtown Little Rock. Featured will be three films: Every Third Bite, Pollen Nation, and Seeds, Hope and Concrete. There will be a discussion moderated by Chuck Crimmins, Heifer Ranch’s garden and forestry coordinator. Interested in keeping bees but don’t know how? Then, attend the beginning beekeeping class hosted by the Central Arkansas Beekeepers’ Association, March 23rd, 26th and 30th, at the Sylvan Hills Church of Christ (117 W. Maryland Ave.) in Sherwood! The class will meet each night from 6-9 p.m. in the church’s Family Center. The cost is $25, and you’ll get a book and CD. Harvey Johnston of the Harvey’s Honey will be the main instructor. The class has about 20 people signed up already, so hurry if you want to participate.
