In a time when it is impossible to predict the future of our energy and transportation systems, the Ozark Headwaters Group of the Arkansas Sierra Club is proud to host a discussion of the role rail transit can play for improving our freight distribution system. The discussion will be held tonight at 7 p.m. at St. Paul Episcopal Church (224 North East Avenue) in Fayetteville.
The discussion will be led by Dr. Terry Tremwel, Director, Supply Chain Management Research Center, University of Arkansas, and by Joseph Hughes, Senior Organizer for Go21, an advocacy organization for freight rail.
Those who participate in the discussion will learn about the connections between our opportunities for better environmental management through better efficiencies in our supply chain, and how freight rail can address climate change and our reliance on automobile infrastructure.
About Dr. Terry Tremwel – Dr. Terry Tremwel is the Director of the Supply Chain Management Research Center (SCMRC) at the University of Arkansas. He has a Ph.D. in Agricultural Engineering. Tremwel leads the SCMRC in its sustainability efforts in renewable energy generation and resource use efficiencies that are applicable to transportation and distribution center environments. This convergence of interests led to several papers on the supply chain in the wind industry. Current research includes supply chain management for renewable energy and consumer packaged goods in China and India. The SCMRC seeks opportunities for active collaboration with companies seeking greater efficiencies throughout their supply chain. Tremwel developed and teaches the first sustainability class taught at the University of Arkansas Walton College of Business.
