Preservation Technique: How to Freeze Tomatoes

Some posts are worth repeating.

Freeze tomatoes and eat local throughout the year! Did you know that you can freeze tomatoes? I found that out last year and froze so many bags of tomatoes.

Freezing tomatoes is SUPER easy. Here’s what you do:

  1. Select tomatoes without blemishes and bruises; wash.
  2. Place tomatoes on a pan lined with freezer sheet.
  3. Stick pan in the freezer.
  4. When frozen, place tomatoes in plastic bags.

Cooking with frozen tomatoes is easy, too. Place frozen tomatoes under warm water, and their skins come right off. Then, you can use them whole, dice them up, and make sauce, chili, etc. No need to defrost ’em!

So this weekend, grab some tomatoes at the Certified Arkansas Farmers’ Market and eat local throughout the year!
