Two years ago, Eddy and I decided to kill grass in our front yard and turn the yard into an edible and native plant garden. We killed the grass by laying down mulch on top of cardboard. We then planted buckwheat as a cover crop to fix nitrogen and add organic matter. This past spring, we finally began planting.
One book that I used to plan my front yard garden is The Edible Garden by editors of Sunset Books. It’s a great book if you are considering edible landscaping. The book contains beautiful photos of edible gardens. It also includes useful tips on everything from extending your growing season and getting rid of pests to how to arrange plants and espalier your apple trees.
If you’re interested in growing vegetables, fruits, and herbs and want them to look beautiful in your landscape, The Edible Gardens is a must-read. Check it out!
