Chip Johnson, mayor of Hernando, Mississippi, will discuss his community’s efforts to fight childhood obesity through policies that promote a culture of good health. Under Johnson’s leadership, Hernando has undertaken efforts to build sidewalks, parks and trails and establish a local farmer’s market, among other initiatives. Johnson has become a national spokesman for community health and quality of life issues. This lecture is part of “Place, Parks and Politics,” a four-week, outdoor speaker series in partnership with the Little Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau.
