In addition to the above positions, Audubon Arkansas has the opportunity to hire a full-time AmeriCorps VISTA position in the Northwest Arkansas Field Office. VISTAs volunteer for one year to help build the infrastructure of low-income and vulnerable community groups. They are placed with non-profits and get paid a small living stipend by the Federal Government, like a domestic Peace Corps.

VISTA Background Information:

VISTAs are full-time volunteers who are paid a living stipend by Americorps; equivalent to about $858 a month plus health coverage and college loan deferment.

VISTAs may not go to school full time or work other jobs of any kind.

VISTAs must make a one-year commitment, starting on the first day of service and ending 365 days later.

Americorps offers a bonus at the end of 1 year of service that is a choice of either a $5,350 education grant (for future school or past student loans); or a $1,500 cash award.

VISTAs must be used to build the infrastructure of your organization and low income communities and cannot be used as office administrators, laborers or to implement projects that don’t build the long-term capacity of your organization or low income communities.

VISTAs may not be involved in labor organizing, voter registration, voter mobilization, political campaigns or lobbying.
