Central Arkansas Water (CAW) is sponsoring a “Southshore Sweep” at Lake Maumelle on Saturday, November 6 from 9 a.m. to noon. CAW is inviting the central Arkansas community to join in this project to “spruce up” the area around Lake Maumelle by helping to remove trash and debris from the public-use areas in the Maumelle Watershed.
Ms. Stephanie Hymel, CAW’s Stewardship Coordinator, said that the “Southshore Sweep” provides volunteers in central Arkansas an opportunity to help protect the water quality in Lake Maumelle – a primary water source that provides drinking water for 16 communities consisting of almost 400,000 people.
Those interested in helping with the cleanup should plan to meet at Jolly Roger’s Marina on Arkansas Highway 10 at 9 a.m. They will then head out in teams to various public-use areas along the southshore of the lake. At noon on Saturday, CAW will provide pizza, drinking water, and soft drinks to those who helped with the cleanup.
Ms. Hymel noted that the southshore area was chosen for the cleanup because it has some of the most popular public-use areas on the lake. She added that the Lake Maumelle Watershed is a focal point for natural resources preservation and protection.
GreenAR by the Day agrees and will be there for the cleanup. Come and join me in keeping Lake Maumelle clean!
